Robin Walker, Parliamentary Candidate for Worcester has recognised the enormous contribution made by volunteers in the constituency and given his backing for the Volunteering Manifesto, a national campaign, backed by Volunteering England.
Robin has been involved in volunteering for many years, having previously worked as a volunteer with Riding for the Disabled and recently having volunteered to help children with literacy at Worcester's Gorse Hill Primary School.
He has also supported Worcester's own Volunteer Centre and last year spoke out for local community support service, Worcester Wheels, successfully lobbying the council to restore funding to it.
Today Robin signed the pledge saying
I will work hard to support volunteers and organisations that involve volunteers, both in my constituency and across the country. I will do this by:
- Recognising the value of volunteering in building a strong society
- Promoting positive messages about volunteering
- Encouraging more people to give their time by helping free volunteers from red-tape
- Supporting the organisations who support volunteers
Robin said
"I am proud to be able support volunteering in Worcester and to have been involved in it myself for many years. People in Worcester are very good at supporting voluntary organisations and we must keep up our strong record. We can never thank volunteers enough for all the work that they do, but I think it is absolutely right that politicians should do everything we can to support them. The Conservatives naturally support people taking responsibility and recognise the enormous contribution that volunteering can make to building a secure and responsible society."
