Walker welcomes over £200,000 of National Lottery funding to support children with special needs in Worcester

Robin Walker, MP for Worcester, has welcomed the announcement that The Friends of Fort Royal and C&T have been awarded £205,740 from The National Lottery Community Fund.

The National Lottery Community Fund is the largest community funder in the UK and awards money raised by National Lottery players to communities across the UK.

This funding will enable a collaborative partnership between C&T, a specialist organisation offering a unique, digitally enabling and collaborative approach to arts and education, Friends of Fort Royal and Fort Royal School.

The project, Time to be Seen, aims to bring together these groups and engage with the local community to help develop and empower children with special education and physical needs in Worcester. It will look at the innovative use of technology to break down barriers and bring new learning opportunities to our children, so enabling them to learn together in school and open the wider community.

Robin congratulated the local Worcester organisations and looks forwards to see the positive change that this funding will see in the community:

“Today’s announcement is a fantastic outcome for children with special needs in Worcester and I acknowledge the hard work done by the Friends of Fort Royal, the Fort Royal School, and C&T.”

“The £200,000 funding announcement will go a long way towards provide the opportunity for children with special needs to receive the support that they need to achieve their full potential. I am pleased with this announcement and look forward to monitoring the progress of Time to be Seen.”

“In Worcester, we are lucky to have organisations who are championing opportunities for children with special needs in the community. I have been a big supporter of this school over the years and regularly meet with Ed Francis to discuss ways in which we can improve services for children with special needs.”

Ed Francis, Head Teacher of Fort Royal Community Primary School said:

“We are excited to have secured this opportunity to use technology to improve the learning and lives of our very vulnerable pupils.”

“We find it is the single most helpful motivator for our children and the lottery funding secured by Margaret Jones on behalf of The Friends of Fort Royal School with C&T has now provided us with the means to create something very special, worthwhile and we hope ground breaking.”
