Robin Walker, MP for Worcester, recently officially opened Canopius UK Speciality Ltd’s new offices on the Kings Court Business Park.
The firm is one of the UK’s largest wholesale insurance brokers and forms part of the Canopius Group. Canopius is a global specialty (re)insurer and part of Sompo Holdings, one of the top three Japanese property and casualty insurers. The Worcester base for the firm came after Bewdley based local broker K Drewe moved their offices to the Kings Court building off Newtown Road and merged with one of the biggest names in insurance, Canopius.
Canopius UK Specialty provides a wide range of niche personal lines leisure insurance products, including caravans, over 50’s home, marine, park homes and classic cars, with nearly 60 years of experience to back up its flexible and innovative solutions.
The new office has been designed specifically for the company and houses approximately 50 staff, with room for expansion. The operation includes underwriting, support and call centre staff and most areas are currently recruiting.
During Robin’s visit he heard how the company was planning to double its staff numbers in the space of a year and how impressed the company’s management were with Worcester’s strategic location as well as how they would welcome the improvements to Worcester’s road and rail access that Robin has been campaigning to achieve. Their new office is close to the Sixways junction which is going to be upgraded in the next Parliament and will be a short drive from Worcestershire Parkway Station which is set to be delivered in 2017.
John Eldridge, Managing Director at Canopius UK Specialty Ltd commented:
“It’s a hugely exciting time for the business and our people, and we are delighted to be in our new home. Our approach is very simple; great underwriting and great service and we look forward to delivering this from our new Worcester office.”
“I am thrilled to see such a major name in insurance establishing its hub for the Midlands here in Worcester. We are already the home of some of the most exciting software that underpins the insurance industry and a number of thriving local insurance brokers in Worcester. Having such a major international company recognise the world class nature of our County can only be a good thing and the high quality jobs that this can bring will be exceedingly welcome. My discussions with the management team reflected the vital importance of continuing to improve our transport infrastructure here in Worcester and I will certainly keep up the pressure to do just that.”
