Worcester’s MP Robin Walker attended Worcestershire County Cricket Club’s New Road ground on Friday (3rd March) to formally hand over a second wheelchair-accessible minibus to Worcester Wheels.

The news means that local communities in Worcester and the surrounding villages will be served with an additional wheelchair accessible minibus thanks to the Department for Transport’s Community Minibus fund, the first round of which has seen £25million invested nationally in minibuses to help support some of the most vulnerable members of society.

Robin was also pleased to welcome a representative of Accessibility Solutions, the business that converted an ordinary white van into a fully accessible minibus to meet the needs of Worcester Wheel’s clients.

Community transport is provided by not-for-profit organisations such as Worcester Wheels for elderly, disabled and socially excluded groups and individuals who are unable to use public transport and have no access to their own vehicle.

David Davis, Chair of the Trustees of Worcester Wheels said:

“The Trustees, staff and volunteers are delighted to have received the new wheelchair accessible minibus from the Department for Transport to add to our existing fleet. It will prove invaluable as we grow and develop our services to provide even more affordable, accessible and reliable bus services to the City of Worcester and its’ environs”.

Speaking after the handover, Robin Walker said:

“I was delighted to celebrate the arrival of a second minibus to Worcester Wheels. Community transport is vitally important in helping get people to hospitals, towns and shops, as well as supporting employment and education.”

“This fund is making an enormous difference to organisations like Worcester Wheels, enabling them to help people participate in local life.”

“That Worcester Wheels now have a second fully accessible minibus means that even more local people will be able to benefit from increased support and independence.”
