Robin Walker MP has today attended the launch of a new bus route to run from the City Centre and serve Warndon via Brickfields, Blackpole and Tetbury Drive.
First Bus Group arranged a launch event outside the Guildhall to celebrate the new bus route, which will boast five uses with fully refurbished interiors including new flooring, seating and charging points for users of the service. The route has been branded ‘Nimrod’, and the buses reflect this with themed décor to commemorate Edward Elgar’s composition of the same name.
To celebrate the increase in accessibility to the City in which Elgar once lived, First Bus Group partnered with the Elgar School of Music who will be performing three 40-minute sets of Elgar’s music composed of piano, strings and vocals outside of the Guildhall during the launch. Information about the route was available at the event, as well as freebies and special ‘Nimrod’ bus biscuits.
This launch comes alongside several other transport improvements within and without the City boundaries, including a recent announcement of funding for Shrub Hill Station to better accessibility at the station, the renovation of Worcester Foregate Street Station, the creation of Worcestershire Parkway and the dualling of the Southern Link which will help connect the M5 to the west of Worcestershire, and Herefordshire and provide a bypass to Worcester City Centre, easing congestion and cutting average journey times along the A4440 in both directions.
Speaking about the launch, Robin said:
“I am always happy to see increased access in and out of the City Centre, and I know that this improved service will make a significant difference to my constituents. For commuters, leisurely visitors and the elderly bus services can provide essential access to the wonderful shops, cafes and restaurants in the City and I am pleased with the launch of a new bus route, with five totally refurbished buses.”
“Public transportation is a vital part of urban and rural communities as it provides an easy, fast and environmentally friendly option for travel. This service specifically will increase access for those who live on the East/North East sides of the city, whilst the soon to be completed works at Worcestershire Parkway will streamline access to public transport for those on the West side of Worcester.”
“I was delighted to see First Bus Group use this launch to tip their hats to Edward Elgar; one of our City’s greatest figures. It was an honour to listen to the orchestra and be out and about in the City hearing concerns of constituents over a Nimrod bus biscuit.”
