Worcester MP Robin Walker visited Severn Trent’s Worcester Sewage Works today to discuss the work they do for constituents and the environment in general. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss how STW plan to help make Worcester’s waters as safe and as clean as possible.
Robin met with Emily Timmins, the head of Waste-Water Recycling for STW, who gave Robin a tour of the site, talking him through recent developments in how they carry out their activity. The visit enabled Robin to consult with STW on their current and future plans to ensure water treatment causes minimal damage to the environment and the community.
Emily also talked Robin through STW’s new river pledges to improve the conditions of rivers for the people of Worcester. Overall, the pledges lay out plans to ‘Get River Positive’- encouraging the care of rivers to make them as safe, clean, and enjoyable for humans and wildlife alike. This comes alongside heavy past investments with an extra £350 million to come. In pursuit of their Net Zero carbon emissions target STW has also laid out plans in a ‘Triple Carbon Pledge for 2030’ to ensure their vehicles are all 100% electric, and their plants are fully powered by renewable energy.
Robin said:
‘I was grateful for the opportunity to find out from them what STW are doing to help improve services in a sustainable and cost-effective way. I was particularly pleased to see the plans they have in place to reduce their carbon emissions and make our rivers cleaner and safer for all who use them.’
