Following the RFU's announcement today that scheduled fixtures can go ahead at Sixways this weekend, Worcester MP Robin Walker has issued the following statement:
'I am delighted and relieved to learn that this weekend’s fixtures can go ahead. This is a result of the hard work and commitment of the club’s staff who have continued to work through extremely challenging conditions.
'I remain deeply concerned about the financial issues the club is facing and as the local Member of Parliament will continue to do all I can to ensure these matters are resolved. To that end I have secured an adjournment debate in Parliament this Thursday (September 22nd) and I know that my Worcestershire colleagues will join me in ensuring it is given the attention it deserves.
'Over the course of this week I have spoken to a number of interested parties, including the DCMS with whom I remain closely in touch. I recognise that recent events must have been very challenging for the players at the club, but they have so far responded magnificently and they will have the good will of all Worcester folk behind them.
'I wish the University of Worcester Warriors well for their match on Saturday and the first team all the best for their Gallagher Premiership match on Sunday.'
