With the festive period just around the corner, Worcester MP Robin Walker received his flu vaccine in Parliament in time for the winter months.
Thanks to the fantastic efforts of NHS staff, more than 16 million autumn Covid vaccine booster doses have been delivered as well as more than 17 million flu vaccines.
Although there is still a chance that people might catch the flu, Robin has encouraged people to get their jab as the flu vaccines help protect against the main types of flu viruses. If people do get flu after vaccination, it's likely to be milder and not last as long.
If you're eligible for a free flu vaccine, you can book an appointment at your GP surgery. You can also book online to get a flu vaccine from a pharmacy that offers it on the NHS.
Robin said:
“I pay tribute to all the staff across health and social care who played their part in the successful flu campaign last year. They worked to meet increased uptake ambitions and to extend the offer to additional groups at great pace. Thanks to their hard work, the NHS achieved some of the best flu vaccine uptake rates ever achieved.”
“Flu cases have risen to levels not seen before Covid-19 pandemic, so I urge all eligible people to come forward for vaccination.”
“Now is the best time to get your flu shot before the worst of the flu season.”
