Yesterday [30 April 2024] Worcester MP Robin Walker submitted an important petition in the House of Commons, pressing the Government to promptly implement the recommendations outlined in the Second Interim Report of the Infected Blood Inquiry.
The Report is a pivotal document in the pursuit of justice for those affected by the infected blood scandal and sets out the crucial steps necessary to address the grievances of victims and their families.
The petition was signed by a large number of Worcester residents, including people who had lost family and friends to this scandal as well as a former chairman and councillor who had worked with Robin. Another signatory has been affected by this scandal since birth but has gone on to create the Tainted Blood campaign.
After submitting the petition Robin commented saying;
“I want to make sure that this Government delivers on its promise to properly compensate the victims of this scandal as swiftly as possible.”
“This process has already gone on too long, and while I understand the need to ensure everyone affected by this scandal is compensated it is clear that we must act fact in delivering justice for these people.”
Robin has previously pressed Ministers to meet with victim support groups including Tainted Blood and has supported legislation to move compensation forward faster. In future, Robin will continue to support efforts from across the House to ensure that justice is delivered to these people.
