Worcester MP Robin Walker is pleased that the Department for Health and Social Care has allocated £1.5 billion in funding to the local Integrated Care Board (ICB) as part of the Government’s record funding for the NHS.
Since September 2023 the Government has delivered an additional 26 full time equivalent doctors and 53 nurses for the ICB to support those already caring Worcester’s community. This is in addition to the Three Counties Medical School has received funding to start admitting students from next September, training young adults in Worcester to be the doctors of tomorrow.
In the community, Government funding has delivered an additional 42 GPs since 2019. Working together these GPs provided 650,000 more appointments in 2023 than were available in 2019. This will work to bring an end to the 8am rush for appointments, as will various technological upgrades which the Government is brining to GP practises across England.
Lastly, the Department announced that the ICB, along with other organisations, has been awarded £2.8 million in funding to purchase new cutting edge equipment for a variety of clinical research areas. This continues to ensure that people in England receive cutting edge medical care with the very best of equipment.
Robin commented saying:
“I am pleased that the Government is continuing to provide record levels of funding to the NHS into 2024/25 in order to support the people who need the medical care it provides.
“With more doctors, nurses, and GPs, we will be able to continue treating people while making further progress on handling the cases which have arisen during the pandemic.
“I want to pay tribute to all the hard working people who, as part of our local NHS, help keep our community in good health.
